We are all affected by our environment.  Our physical surroundings affect how we feel, how comfortable we are, how we relate to others, and how successfully we accomplish what we set out to do. For young children, the environment is particularly important.  The size of the room, the colors of the walls, the type of furniture and flooring, the amount of light, and the number of windows all influence how children learn. Our learning environments should send the message that: this is a good place to be, you belong here, this is a place you can trust, you can do many things on your own and be independent, you can get away and be by yourself, and this is a safe place to explore and try out your ideas, whether in a classroom or in the home of a Family Child Care Provider.
